How another fellow Aussie began - Bonds

We love an Aussie brand and Bonds is one of the oldest us Aussies have, dating back to 1915 when George Bond came across from America. Bonds started out selling women’s hosiery. This humble beginning started on a long journey to where they are today.  By 1918, Bonds began designing and manufacturing underwear for women. It wasn’t until the 1920s that Bonds began experimenting with men’s underwear.  Their first product was the men’s ‘chesty’, a product that has stood the test of time and is still on the shelves today – a very cool story.

Bonds was one of the most influential brands in starting the import industry for Australia. The team behind Bonds had the brilliant idea of creating a spinning mill in Sydney, meaning that they were able to have more control over the quality, costs and this made them more independent by not having to outsource all of their cotton. Bonds haven’t let their quality drop for all these years! Fun fact: Bonds was kind enough to provide Charles Kingsford-Smith and Charles Ulm with their undies on their RECORD breaking flight across the Pacific Ocean in 1928. For the 2000 Sydney Olympics, Bonds became the sponsor and dressed (well you know the under clothes part) 120,000 volunteers. This projected their brand from an Aussie only brand to a global name; all of this from people wearing their undies on TV and chanting ‘Aussie Aussie Aussie’ ‘Oi Oi Oi’.

How Calvin Klein became to be its sexy self

Calvin Klein is a name we’ve all heard before. A name we know and love for their underwear. Interestingly, these guys they did not start in the underwear game. CK started with the complete opposite: garments to go onto top of clothes… coats! In 1968 they we able to succeed with their coat designs which later helped them transition to be able to license their brand to create jeans back in 1977. We all know the classic campaigns that came with this, the black and white images with very attractive models. They continued this suggestive kind of persona for many years to come and it undoubtedly made them well known globally. 1982 is where their renowned underwear came into play. Soon after, came the iconic ‘My Calvins’ campaign that portrayed young, attractive celebrities in Calvin Klein underwear. These campaigns were clearly Calvin Klein, with their distinct waistband prominent in every photo and each photo had a unique Calvin Klein style. There is no question as to why Calvin Klein has made it so far.

Unlike Calvin Klein and Bonds, Tackle started off knowing they wanted to cover and support men’s bits from the get go. Tackle saw how few options there are out there when it comes to good quality, Comfy AS undies that aren’t going to hurt your wallet or the planet too much. Tackle has devised some spectacular undies! They’ve created undies that do not chafe, thanks to a little addition of a panel in the inner thigh, made of nylon elastane. They’ve also found a wonder fabric: Bamboo. Bamboo is more environmentally friendly as it uses less water in the manufacturing process in comparison to cotton. And even better, this bad ass fabric is ethically sourced. Tackle have also made sure to add a little flap for easy access, so you don’t waste any time. Quick access so you can get back to what you love doing, whether that be a fishing or road trippin! Tackle are doing their bit, so they can cover yours!
